Chargers Likely to let Vincent Jackson leave in Free Agency

aj_smith_conference

The San Diego Chargers do not feel comfortable using the franchise tag on receiver Vincent Jackson which would pay Jackson nearly $13.7 million dollars in 2012. Chargers general manager A.J. Smith is "extremely uncomfortable" paying that much money for one player.  The Chargers have holes to fill on the offensive line and on defense.  If the Chargers and Jackson cannot come to a long term agreement soon; Jackson's days in San Diego are finished.   … [Read more...]

Both A.J. Smith and Norv Turner on their way out?

aj_smith_conference

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the Chargers could clean house and fire GM A.J. Smith and head coach Norv Turner.  Acee says Turner is all but done as the head coach, but Chargers president Dean Spanos is contemplating wither or not to fire Smith.  The fan base in San Diego is unhappy with the Chargers and putting pressure on upper management to make a change. Chargers president Dean Spanos hasn't made a decision with Smith just yet, but Turner is just waiting … [Read more...]

Do the Chargers Regret Firing Marty Schottenheimer And Hiring Norv Turner?

Marty-Schottenheimer

Do you think the San Diego Chargers regret firing Marty Schottenheimer?  They have to be after what Schottenheimer's replacement Norv Turner has done since taking the Chargers head coaching job.  The Chargers got rid of Schottenheimer after the 2006 season in which Schottenheimer lead the team to a 14-2 regular season record.  The Chargers did lose to the Patriots in the playoffs in the divisional round, but this does raise an interesting question?  Who gets rid of their coach after a 14-2 … [Read more...]

Are the Chargers interested in Chris Harris?

aj_smith_conference

The Chicago Bears cut safety Chris Harris Thursday, but it doesnt look like Harris will be without a team for long.  According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune the Chargers could be interested in signing Harris.  Right now the Chargers are currently ranked 4th in the NFL in pass defense, but could use a safety like Harris to fill a void left by Bob Sanders who is out for the year with an injury. The only way the Chargers can sign Harris is if 23 teams don't claim him through … [Read more...]

Antonio Gates looks to return week 7 against the Jets

Antonio-Gates

The San Diego Chargers could be getting a major piece to their offensive puzzle in week 7 with the possible return of tight end Antonio Gates.  The Chargers offense has looked out of sync without Gates on the field.  Gates replacement Randy McMichael only has 11 catches for 109 yards in the 3 games he has filled in for Gates.  These aren't terrible numbers, but much of what the Chargers do in the passing game is set around the tight end being a threat in the middle. Phillip Rivers passing … [Read more...]

Malcom Floyd Returns to the Chargers

Malcom-Floyd-San-Diego-Chargers

The San Diego Chargers have re-signed Malcom Floyd to a 2 year contract.   This is a great move by the Chargers who bring back a receiver who knows the offense and gives Phillip Rivers another receiver to throw too.  I'm surprised the Chargers and Floyd came to an agreement with all the teams that are in need of a receiver, but maybe Floyd feels comfortable in San Diego and took less money. The one team that missed out on signing Floyd were the Ravens.  I thought they would make a big … [Read more...]

Chargers and Eric Weddle Agree To A Deal

E_Weddle_080113_IA

The San Diego Chargers and and Eric Weddle have come to an agreement that will keep Weddle with the team.  Weddle's days in with the Chargers were thought to be over when the team signed Bob Sanders, but AJ Smith had to realize he couldnt let one of the NFL's best safety's leave in free agency and risk the chance of Sanders getting injured again.  The Chargers secondary is about to have 2 of the best safety's in the NFL. The other team that was linked with Weddle were the Jaguars.  Weddle … [Read more...]

Can the Chargers win without Jackson and McNeill?

aj_smith_conference

Do the San Diego Chargers really think they can win without Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill?  I am not sure what is going through the head of Charger GM A.J. Smith, but he needs to put his ego to the side and actually think about the situation.  Who are the Chargers going to get to replace Jackson and McNeill? Do they find guys off the street?  Do they use guys they already have on the roster?  How does the game plan change without them on the field? You don't replace an All Pro Type … [Read more...]

Chargers Should Draft a Running Back Not Trade for one

LT

With the Rumors flying around that the San Diego Chargers might trade for a running back I have to say I disagree with there methods to fill the void at running back. I am a big believer in drafting running backs straight out of college instead of trading for a back or signing a free agent that has been in the NFL for a couple years. I want to draft somebody who is more fresh and does not have the wear and tear of already being in the NFL. If you look at most running backs once they hit the … [Read more...]

San Diego Chargers Are Soft

This weekends playoff Game that ended with the San Diego Chargers losing is a prime example of that team being soft.  The New York Jets came in and took it to the AFC West Champions.  My personal opinion is that the Chargers are a reflection of there coach Norv Turner who is soft.  The Jets on the other hand are a direct reflection of there coach Rex Ryan who is a character all on his own. The Chargers had the lead going into the second half, but you could see the difference in the style … [Read more...]
