Look for the Lions to Sign Cortland Finnegan

Cortland Finnegan

Will the Lions make a push to sign corner back Cortland Finnegan?  Carlos Monarrez of the freep.com seems to think so.  The Titans have yet to offer Finnegan a new contract and could let him walk.  Monarrez says Finnegan will want a contract similar to the five-year, $48.75-million contract Jonathon Joseph got last year from the Texans. Is Finnegan worth that much?  At the age of 28 I am not sure if the Lions would be smart to sign Finnegan to a five-year deal. The Lions would be better … [Read more...]

Lions Kevin Smith Looking Like He Will Play Against The Saints

kevin_smith

The Detroit Lions thought they might be without their newly re-signed running back Kevin Smith Sunday when they play the Saints after Smith sprained his ankle against the Packers on Thanksgiving.  Smith spoke with the Oakland Press and said that even though he does have a sprained ankle he is improving everyday and likes his chances of playing Sunday.  The Lions will need all of the offensive fire power they can get to win this game to keep up with the high powered Saints offense. … [Read more...]

NFL Suspends Ndamukong Suh for 2 games

SUh

Jay Glazer is reporting the NFL has suspened Ndamukong Suh for 2 games for kicking Evan Dietrich-Smith of the Packers on Thanksgiving day.  Suh will not be paid for the 2 games.  This is a big blow the the Lions who are fighting for one of the NFC wildcard slots. I thought Suh might have gotten a 3 or 4 game suspension for his actions when all eyes were on the NFL Thanksgiving day. The stomp was classless, but the worst part was the explanation from Suh after the game.  If the NFL wants to … [Read more...]

Lions Jahvid Best Done for The Season

Jahvid-Best

The Detroit Lions will be without Jahvid Best for the rest of the season as the team has put Best on the season-injured reserved.  Best went down with a concussion earlier this season and hasn't see the field since.  The Lions are being very careful with Best since he has had a problem with concussions in both the NFL and in college. The Lions offense hasn't been the same sine Best went down.  They thought Kevin Smith would take Best's spot, but he went down Thursday with a high ankle … [Read more...]

The Lions will sign Leonard Davis

1_leonard-davis

The Detroit Lions will sign veteran offensive linemen Leonard Davis this week according to Scout.com.  The Lions had brought in Davis for a workout at the start of the season, but decided they were good with the linemen they had.  Now halfway through the season the Lions feel they need to add some depth before the playoff push.  The Lions are one of the worst rushing teams in the NFL and think Davis can help in that department. … [Read more...]

People Close To Jahvid Best Think He Should Sit Rest Of The Season

Jahvid-Best

Detroit Lions running back suffered his 2nd concussion Sunday against the 49ers which was his 2nd this season.  Mike Freeman of CBSsports.com wrote in his most recent Ten Point Stance series that people close to Best are concerned about his health moving forward and don't want to risk having Best suffer a 3rd concussion. Best missed 4 games in college after suffering a devastating concussion against Oregon State.   … [Read more...]

Lions lose Jahvid Best To Another Concussion

Jahvid-Best

Not only did the Detroit Lions lose their first game of the season yesterday so they may have also lost their running back Jahvid Best for a while.  Best suffered his 2nd concussion of the season yesterday in the 4th quarter on a 1 yard run.  There has been no reports on how long Best will be out for, but the Lions will be cautious getting Best back into the lineup. Maurice Morris will now be the featured back in Lions offense. Against the 49ers yesterday Best has ineffective running the … [Read more...]

Nick Fairley looks to make his return to the Field

Nick-Fairley

Lions are off to a 4-0 in 2011, but what’s crazy is they have done this without first round pick Nick Fairley playing a down.  The good news for the Lions is that Fairley was back at practice yesterday and head coach Jim Schwartz says “(He’s) getting better, improving every day, and we’ll get him back as soon as we can.” The Lions are planning on easing Fairley back onto the field which is the smart move. Fairley missed all of the preseason and will be a backup pass rusher when he … [Read more...]

Are Lions thinking about Signing Leonard Davis?

1_leonard-davis

The Detroit Lions feel they need to add some depth to their offensive line and according to Jason La Confora they have begin by process by bringing in former Cowboy guard Leonard Davis. At this point they haven't officially signed Davis to a contract, but I would assume a deal could be done by the end of today or tomorrow if the Lions were serious  about having Davis join the Lions. Davis was cut by the Cowboys for cap space reasons and still has some good football left in his body.  Any … [Read more...]

Detroit Lions 2011 Preview and Predictions

matthew_stafford_lions_browns

The Detroit Lions are going to be a team to keep an eye on in 2011.  I can’t think of a team in the NFL that has more young talent then the Lions.  Jim Schwartz took over a team that went winless in 2008 and has put them into a position to where they now could be contending for a wildcard slot. The Lions are built to be good for the next 5 to 6 seasons and will be a fun team to watch in 2011. Offense:  The Lions offense is stacked with young playmakers.  It starts with quarterback … [Read more...]
